3D Corneo-Scleral Topography System Now Available

Visionary Optics has announced the launch of the sMap3D corneo-scleral topography system in the United States. The sMap3D is manufactured by Precision Ocular Metrology. It uses a structured light approach for 3D mapping to obtain micro precision measurements of the cornea and sclera with a 22mm maximum field of view, according to the company.

The sMapPro software is designed to stitch together multiple images, which allows practitioners to obtain the maximum area of the sclera that is occluded by the lids in a straight gaze view despite the eyelids being held open. The company says this ability is critical for scleral lens fitting using elevation topography.

The sMapPro software also provides sagittal depth data at any specified chord. In addition, scleral toricity can be calculated from any specified radius from center. The virtual fit screen allows practitioners to send data directly to Visionary Optics for analysis and design of a customized Europa scleral lens. Alternatively, practitioners can tailor lens fit using the software’s virtual fitting plots. The sMapPro software allows for complete specification of any lens parameter to virtually adjust for corneal and limbal clearance, peripheral lens alignment, and customized back-surface toricity, according to the company. Anterior Segment Tomography and Optical Biometry Device

The Oculus Pentacam AXL has received the 510(k) clearance of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Pentacam AXL provides anterior segment tomography and optical biometry—all in one device and with a single measuring operation.

Oculus says that the intuitive and network-compatible intraocular lens (IOL) calculation software uses standard formulas, ray-tracing formulas, and formulas for treated corneas that are already integrated into the IOL calculator. A comprehensive IOL database with IOL constants for the Pentacam AXL is also integrated.

In addition, Oculus says that the Pentacam AXL offers a well-targeted screening process; a Fast Screening Report, which shows how the individual measuring data compares to normative data; Belin/Ambrósio Enhanced Ectasia Display, which provides early detection of corneal ectasia; and densitometric evaluation, such as Corneal Optical Densitometry and Pentacam Nucleus Staging (PNS), for every cataract patient.

Oculus is currently taking pre-orders, with delivery in U.S. markets expected in the second half of 2016. Call (425) 670-9977 or visit www.Pentacamaxl.com.

Natural Cleanser and Wipes for Dry Eye

Okra Limited recently announced Zocular, an eyecare product now being launched as ZocuFoam cleanser and ZocuWipes pre-moistened, single-packet pads. Zocular is designed to treat the discomfort, burning, itching, redness, watering, and other eye problems associated with dry eye.

Ophthalmologist Dr. Peter Pham developed Zocular. Unlike other eyecare products that use ingredients such as antibiotics or steroids that may cause further irritation, Zocular uses a refined extract of okra and a select blend of other natural botanicals to rejuvenate, refresh, and heal many eye problems faster than other products in this category, according to the company.

The company states that Zocular is effective because it changes the oil composition on the lid; it replaces and rebalances the oil and turns the “bad” oil into “good” oil.

ZocuWipes typically need to be used just once a day to provide immediate and all-day relief from dry eye symptoms; ZocuFoam is a gentle, foaming cleanser and moisturizer that lifts and removes the inflammation-inducing oily residue on the eyelid margins for immediate relief, according to the company. New Disposable Applanation Prism

Keeler Ophthalmic Instruments has introduced a new disposable applanation prism, Tonomate, to facilitate safe and fast Goldmann applanation tonometry.

Keeler says that Tonomate prisms are manufactured to the high quality associated with the Keeler brand and are designed to fit most applanation tonometer prism holders. Each prism is individually packed in sterile packaging and can be fitted easily without requiring direct contact, according to the company. The prism is discarded after use to streamline eye examinations and prevent the cross-infection of diseases between patients that can be transmitted via the tear film.

Keeler says that Tonomate prisms are ideal for use with D-KAT, Keeler’s digital applanation tonometer. D-KAT is available in R- and T-type variants for H-style slit lamps, and as a Z-type model for Z-style slit lamps. Call (800) 523-5620 or visit www.Keelerusa.com.
