EDITOR’S PERSPECTIVE

LIVEN UP THE LAZY DAYS

As summer draws to a close (in the northern hemisphere), the emotions associated with “back to school” fill the air for parents, teachers, and students alike—with great variety depending on which of those hats a person wears! It is a significant time in many students’ lives, whether they are young children going to kindergarten for the first time or young adults headed off to their freshman year in college. Along these lines, we like to take this opportunity to remind our readers of the responsibilities and opportunities that we have with regard to caring for our student populations.

This is the perfect time of year to remind the families in your practice to visit your office for their yearly eyecare needs. It is also a great time to initiate new management and therapeutic approaches for these families. It is a fantastic time to start contact lenses in your pediatric and teen patients! Along these lines, do not forget about myopia management for your emerging myopes, given their needs and risk factor profile. And, make sure to evaluate and treat ocular surface disease, as we know that even our teens can be affected by ocular discomfort through their very frequent use of digital media sources.

All in all, we at Contact Lens Spectrum hope that your summer has been a time of rest, relaxation, and fun, and we wish you and yours the best of its remaining weeks!
