I am excited to have the opportunity each month to share with you best practices in the fitting of cosmetic contact lenses. We know from surveys completed by the contact lens industry that 90% of patients that try cosmetic contacts on will buy them.1 We also know that 19 million people are interested in colors yet only 2.4 million currently wear cosmetic contact lenses.1 What an amazing opportunity for both our practices and our patients.
We all work diligently on a daily basis to take exceptional care of our patients’ vision. We have extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease, yet many of us have not had much experience in the world of retail, specifically the world of fashion. Cosmetic contact lenses, as we learned from the October 2014 cover of O, The Oprah Magazine, are a very important segment of this world of fashion to many of our patients.
The world of cosmetic contact lenses provides a unique opportunity for eye care professionals because it is a world where we can merge fashion with vision. To be able to make our patients see changes the way they see the world. To be able to provide the aspect of fashion to our patients changes the way they see themselves. We are so blessed to be able to meet both of those needs for our patients.
As with any aspect of business there are always strategies that work better for our practice when implementing new technologies. Once a month I will share with you a fitting tip that I have learned and then implemented in my practice with the hopes that you will then choose to do the same in your practice.
Together we can enhance the cosmetic contact lens segment of our practice thereby providing our patients with vision and fashion.
I look forward to hearing about ideas you have found helpful as well. Please send emails, photos if applicable and stories that you have found impactful in your practice so that I may include them in future e-communications.
