Another question, which was submitted by several readers, regards staff training.
How do you train your staff to streamline the process of choosing the right color?
When looking at the top contact lens practices across the country, one commonality I have found is the degree to which they utilize their team (technicians). The most successful cosmetic contact lens practices, and even general contact lens practices, invest their time and resources in making certain that their contact lens technicians are well versed in and have a strategy for fitting cosmetic lenses.
Here are a few ideas that may help you along the way.
Develop a protocol or flowchart for how you want your patients to be fit based on what you feel is best for your patients.
Educate your team as to the features and benefits of the lenses you are prescribing so they can better educate your patients.
Bring in consultants from the companies you have prioritized in your flowcharts to also educate your team members for you with everyone on your team present.
Follow through with regularly scheduled training events (every quarter at a minimum) to make certain your team has executed the strategy presented.
Review your results from your distributor or vendor to be certain your strategy is reality.
Vendor created apps can be loaded on a digital device and made available to your patients in your reception area. These apps not only help educate your patients, they also allow a virtual try on experience that can move the process along in a more efficient way. Make certain your team members have experience with these digital applications so they understand it from your patient’s point of view.
It is a wonderful time to be able to solve our patients’ problems and provide for their needs and wants in the area of cosmetic contact lenses. Our future success will depend entirely on the ability of our team to work together in an efficient and seamless way to create a better experience for our patients.
